Distilleries produce new spirits, which must be put in casks for maturation. The ideal time for this is between 5-10 years. The process of making whiskey is labor-intensive and capital-intensive. In spite of this, distilleries have to wait for years to sell their whiskey in order to earn profits due to the aging process.

The title and ownership are later transferred to the investor as asset owner. The insurance for each 200-liter cask whiskey increases each year, according to the value of the whiskey, thereby covering any potential risks.

When casks are bought, investors receive an ownership certificate. It is legal and binding proof of the ownership of the casks. In certain instances they will also be issued an official storage certificate from the bonded warehouse with regard to each individual cask number.
